Blake’s Story: The Strength Behind the Story

Blake was born on March 15, 2011, and from the very beginning, his life took an unexpected path. After a traumatic delivery, he was diagnosed with Erb’s Palsy, leaving him with very limited use of his right arm. From early on, he had to relearn how to do everyday things—teaching himself to be left-handed and adapting in ways most people never have to think about. What could have been seen as a limitation quickly became one of the first ways Blake showed his resilience.

In the weeks following his birth, his family was met with more uncertainty than they ever could have imagined. What started as routine care quickly turned into something much more complex, with heart concerns, breathing complications, and emergency hospital stays becoming part of their new reality. At one point, they were preparing for open heart surgery—only to be told moments later that what they feared was suddenly gone. It was a moment that felt impossible, one his family still describes as nothing short of a miracle.

As Blake grew, so did the challenges. Diagnoses continued—Chiari malformation, cerebral palsy, airway disorders, and more—bringing with them surgeries, therapies, and countless appointments with specialists. Even now, many of his conditions remain undiagnosed, leaving his family navigating a path without clear answers. But through all of it, Blake has continued to show a strength that goes far beyond his circumstances.

At 14 years old, Blake faced one of the most difficult seasons of his life. After undergoing surgery to correct issues in his legs, complications arose that nearly cost him his leg. He spent 40 days in the hospital and went through 19 surgeries in just a few months. During that time, he lost his ability to walk. It was a moment that could have defined his story—but it didn’t.

Because Blake didn’t give up!

Today, Blake uses a wheelchair and is working every single day to relearn how to walk. He pushes himself in ways that inspire everyone around him, proving that progress doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful. His journey is a reminder that strength isn’t about avoiding hard things—it’s about continuing forward in the middle of them.

Through it all, Blake’s mom shares that hope has taken on a new meaning for their family. It’s not about everything being fixed or life going back to what it once was. It’s about learning to celebrate the smallest victories, finding joy even on the hardest days, and choosing to keep going no matter what. As she says, “Hope doesn’t mean everything will be fixed… it means loving harder and pushing through it.”

Blake’s life is filled with the things he loves—gaming, hunting with his dad, swimming, and anything related to Sonic the Hedgehog. He celebrates every win, whether it’s taking a step forward in therapy or simply getting through a tough day. His family has learned to measure progress not by the world’s timeline, but by Blake’s, embracing each milestone in its own time.

His story has not only shaped him, but everyone around him. It has taught his family what it truly means to be strong, to advocate, and to find purpose in the middle of uncertainty. It has shown them that even in the hardest seasons, there is still so much to be grateful for.

Blake’s journey is not defined by the challenges he has faced, but by the way he continues to rise through them. It’s a reminder that life may not look the way we planned, but it can still be meaningful, beautiful, and full of purpose.

And through it all, one truth continues to shine through:

You can do hard things.
